The ACT Golf Association would like to invite you to
the AGA ‘Ryder Cup’ 2019
– a two-day event over 2 x 18 holes.
Last year’s winner, the European Team, will once again defend against a North American Team.
The Team Captains, Anita Cooney for the North American team and Amanda Millington for the European Team , and the AGA would like to encourage as many AGA members as possible to sign up for this fun event: whether you are a beginner, somewhat experienced or a very experienced player, the two teams need you! The Handicap System ensures that high-handicap players have their fair chance against low-handicap players – so don’t hold back, and please remember to post all your scores in the GHIN-system! Also, if you are aware of new golfers at the HQ, please encourage them to join the AGA and this event.
Venue: Sewell’s Point GC
Dates: Saturday, 14 September, and Sunday, 15 September 2019
Time: First Tee at 09:00 both days
Prize-Giving: On completion of play on Sunday, 15 September
Saturday: Foursome, Match Play with 50% of the (two players) team’s combined HCP allowance given to the team (For mixed teams the HCP allowance is given based on the stroke allocation for the white tees).
Sunday: Singles, Match Play with full HCP allowance given.
Tee off from men’s white and ladies’ red tees.
On Thursday, 12 September the two Team Captains will announce their pairings and order of play for Saturday’s Foursomes to me. I shall complete the start list for the Foursomes and mail it to all members no later than Friday morning. The order of play for Sunday’s Singles Matches will be announced Saturday 14 September, once the Foursomes have been completed, while we are all gathered in the restaurant at Sewell’s Point.
The two teams must have an equal number of players for the Foursomes and the Singles matches. The Tournament Committee may decide to assign – after consultation with the Team Captains – players of European origin to the North American Team or vice versa, in order to form two teams of equal numbers.
The Team that wins more than half the points achievable (one point for winning a match, half a point for a halved match) also wins the AGA ‘Ryder Cup’ 2019. In the event of an overall tie, the European Team will retain the Cup for another year
Foursome – A competition between two-person teams in which the team plays only one ball by taking alternate shots. Before tee-off the players must decide who will take the tee-shot on odd numbered holes (holes number 1, 3, 5, etc.) and who will take the tee-shot on even numbered holes (holes number 2, 4, 6, etc.) Alternate shots are played until the ball is holed out.
Do not hesitate to sign up if you are not able to play both days – just let the Team Captains know which days you are able to play, that way the Team Captains will have more options in setting the teams for the two days.
Entries in by Friday 06 September 2019 to give the Team Captains time to prepare the teams, and so that we can ensure the proper number of tee times with the golf course.
Normal Green Fee for walking or riding applies.
In addition we ask for $ 5 per player towards prizes.
For “team issues” please contact your respective Team Captain.
